Why Am I So Tired?

I can personally relate to this question as I recently found myself needing a nap every day so I am looking back over my habits the past few months to see if it has anything to do with any changes I have made in my life.  Now let me tell you a little bit about my habits.

I am usually a big coffee drinker, 3-5 cups a day of strong black coffee. Over the past few weeks, for unknown reasons, I have noticed that I’m drinking less coffee.  I know what you’re thinking, Eureka! we solved his fatigue problem, but there is more to it. I also started training for a marathon about 5 weeks ago.  OK, now Eureka! Well we may be onto something because I sleep like a baby and almost always get 8 hours of sleep so I don’t think sleep deprivation has anything to do with it.  But, like many of you, I’m interested in a solution.  I’m not planning on changing my coffee habit anytime soon (I’ve quit many times throughout my life and always came back to it because I love the caffeine or because I missed the coffee culture) and I’m planning on training and running for the rest of my life.  My goal is to run 1-2 marathons each year until I can’t walk anymore. So what’s a guy to do?

Here are some of the things I’ve learned recently and some things I’m going to start doing or not doing so I don’t feel tired everyday.

  • Drink more water
  • Increase supplements, vitamins
  • Eat a better breakfast
  • Plan a healthy mid-afternoon snack
  • Try to get to bed earlier and wake up earlier

I’ll keep you posted and how these changes are working and whether or not I’m still tired.  Stay tuned!
